Bevor ich irgendwelche Aktionen starte, die mehr Gefahr für die Originalteile des Fahrzeuges darstellen, als dass sie Lösungen bringen, denke ich nach, schlage ich nach und frage etliche Austin Seven Enthusiasten um Hilfe.
In diesem Falle war es wieder einmal Mike Jarrett, der vor rund 32 Jahren das Fahrzeug komplett restaurierte und unfassbar solide Arbeit geleistet hat. Ich beschrieb ihm das Problem und es kam eine detaillierte Antwort, die half. Mike brachte es auf den Punkt: Verölte Bremsbeläge, die man entweder wechseln muss oder noch einmal den hoffnungsvollen Versuch der gründlichen Reinigung unterzieht. Ich beziehe mich kurz auf meinen Einleitungssatz: Erst die einfachen Lösungen, dann die aufwendigen Arbeiten.
Neuer Bremsreiniger, intensives Reinigen der Bremsen und wheel hubs und die Probefahrt von 166 km zeigte, dass das Problem gelöst war. Stellt sich jetzt nur die Frage, warum soviel Fett ausgetreten ist? Ich denke darüber nach und schlage es nach... und frage Mike (Um ehrlich zu sein... er hat schon gesagt, dass ich die Dichtung wechseln muss)!
Brake problems solved - don't complain, don't despair, just ask Mike Jarrett
Before I start any actions that pose more danger to the original parts of the vehicle than they do solutions, I think, I look up and ask quite a few Austin Seven enthusiasts for help.
In this case it was once again Mike Jarrett, who completely restored the car some 32 years ago and did an incredibly solid job. I described the problem to him and a detailed reply came, which helped. Mike got to the heart of the matter: oily brake pads that either need to be changed or subjected to another hopeful attempt at thorough cleaning. I refer briefly to my introductory sentence: first the simple solutions, then the elaborate work.
New brake cleaner, intensive cleaning of the brakes and wheel hubs and the test drive of 166 km showed that the problem was solved. The only question now is why so much grease was leaking out? I'll think about it and look it up.... and will certainly ask Mike (To be honest... he has already told me to replace the gaskets)!
